Helping the Financially Irresponsible Debate
When the housing market crashed did the banks say, "You know what, you did go in over your head financially. How about we just pay all your delinquent payments." ??

When you give a homeless beggar some cash and then immediately see them buy a pack of cigarettes (or worse) will you ever give them money again?

So, would spending thousands on a treasure hunt when you have $0 in savings be considered financially irresponsible?

Things happen. You can get fired. You can get hit by a hurricane or forest fire.
They say you should have two paychecks in savings for these moments.

NOT spend free willy and if something happens ask for a helping hand.
Nothing against lending out a hand, but we need be careful who we are helping regardless of connection.

But if you have money then it probably better to use it to help out a fellow searcher in need rather than looking for a 10 inch box in 380,000 square mile area.

"holding a silent auction for the 2 racks and over 700 maps that were recently listed on Ebay by Shiloh from Forrest Fenn's collection. One half of the money received will go to Charrisa Kreis who lost her home in Florida due to Hurricane Michael"

Well....case in point.
Should have used the "treasure hunting" money for house insurance/savings?
Live in FL you should expect to lose your home at some point.
After losing your home, spending money on a treasure hunting quest sounds kinda silly don't it?
