Is it really possible to remain anonymous?

The more I look at this the more I feel it is next to impossible to remain anonymous. FF has set this up is such a way as the only option is to get permission from the land owner and go get it and return the bracelet to him. That is how he will know. There are always ways to pull it off, but you will have to be prepared to break the law and the consequences. Breaking the law by trespassing to take a short cut will not be looked at the same as trespassing to purposely remove a $2 million in treasure. If found out (FF could release the location), you could risk loosing it all.

I agree with you, not that Forrest is not trust worthy, but PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY would be gone.

Forrest might have a POKER FACE TELL, or TWITCH... that would give it away that the chest had been found.

... but at the moment Forrest could pass a lie-detector test saying that the chest is still out there...

My thoughts are similar to yours. My two best solves are on private land. It is quite a conundrum.

Why a lot? Why not just one? i.e. why not hire one reputable, licensed professional for the disposition of the treasure, similar to how the $10M hoard finders hired Kagin.

The hypothetical idea is that you want to enjoy the wealth and NOT PAY TAXES by remaining anonymous. By hiring someone, I don't think you'd be able to avoid the taxes.

A few posters have commented that if they found the chest they would give or send the bracelet to Mr. Fenn and never be heard from again. I just wonder if that's really possible. The only way I can see it is if you don't knock over that first domino by giving the bracelet back.

I think like Loco and Mdavis have commented, it might be best to make the announcement and enjoy the benefits. I suppose a person could make the announcement, travel with the chest around the world for a year, put up with the hassles of the demands for a year, then sell it off at auction and be free of it.

That's a heck of a lot better than trying to remain in the shadows and always looking over your shoulder. And like Seeker says, it's not something to worry about until you have to. But I think it might be something worth contemplating before hand... hypothetically, of course.

I'm not so sure about that. One thing I've noticed is that some mail doesn't require a return address. I've received letters that didn't have one. I thought it was required after the September 11 2001 attack but it doesn't appear to be.

Could be just over worked postal sorters that missed it but...

They still have a PHOTO of where, which POST OFFICE, the LETTER CAME FROM... and who knows what FULL-SPECTRUM technology they have for FINGERPRINTS... then there's the HANDWRITING ANALYSIS and NEWSPAPER glue on letters technique you could use... which just leaves MORE FINGERPRINTS...

A RETURN ADDRESS is "DEFINITELY REQUIRED" if you hand the LETTER or PARCEL over the COUNTER... and the POST OFFICE might not be REQUIRED TO DELIVER without it...
