RE: Scrapbook 195
So the song was written in the 40s I think. And it was not a problem at all, ever. Now it is. Ummm, yea, ok.

The guy is trying to convince the girl to stay, he's not holding her down or anything. Give me a break. Grow up metoo movement.

Cruiser likes Mustard FJ40's, do you?

"A station in San Francisco, 96.5 KOIT, banned "Baby It's Cold Outside" on Monday, citing the Cleveland station's decision as well as feedback from its own listeners. However, the decision was met with uproar, and now the station is allowing listeners to vote on the fate of the song via a poll on its website through Dec. 10."

Really? Is that KOITus Interruptus?!

this is the issue of the new millennial

first world hypocrisy of the highest order

judging the old ways as "bad" while ignoring and excusing contemporary behavior that is much worse

note that f gave a follow up comment where he mentions "chemistry" a 2nd time

Off the wall..

The video at link shows Barry Manilow and Suzanne Summers doing a cover of “Baby Its Cold Outside”

Barry Manilow ... bury, man i low

Suzanne Summers

“ gut feeling it will be found by summer “

“ some of the lustre is off the lily “ ( quote from Forrest, recently posted article )

“ Suzanne “ means “ graceful lily “

I thought Forrest may have been poking fun at himself as the (so-accused) lust-er

Chris Yates, you can find “lustre” off (not on) “lillee”

If you watch that video all the way through, you get to another set of actors singing the song with the male/female parts reversed -- the woman is trying to get the guy to stay. If it is from the same movie, it confirms what I had heard about the song -- it was written for a movie, but the movie plays it both ways.

The point of this SB is, she wants to go home and knows she needs to. This cold isn't that cold, but it is cold either way. I guess I'm dumb for thinking it was about the stigma surrounding the "Movement" when it's just a man trying to convince a woman to stay home next time we get there. Interesting timing again as usual, f. Well played. Message Received.

RE: Scrapbook 195
The song wasn't written for the movie but did win an Academy Award for the movie in which is was featured. There's a good write up in Wikipedia. A few years ago, there was a good article that outlined how it started off being a progressive song for women: https://www.washingtonpost.com/postevery...76cc2d410f.

My takeaway from this SB is that language evolves and even simple words and phrases can change within a generation or two and can be interpreted very differently if the context is not known.
