I'm saying "l" is 10 (l is ten) I don't know whether that is a straight letter substitution code where l is ten instead of 12 in English alphabet or perhaps a measurement. It just seemed relevant to your counting the number of times the letter l is in poem and the frequency.

Got it. That's a great interpretation. I need to think about it.

I really like that "L IS TEN" and

"so hear me a L l and " L IS TEN" good" ... he shows "L" in the tenth position.

Thanks to both of you for repeating it until it finally sunk in.

( my notes on letter count etc. are at home, I think. I did them from memory, last night, in between picking kids up off the floor at roller skating, so I need to re-check )

Astree you amaze me, my mind never worked on another subject when dealing with kids. lol

Of course I wouldn't have been with them skating. LOL Vertigo and skating do not make a good pairing.
Shhh they aren't listening.

Agreed. One or two turns and I get dizzy.

I had talked to an 89 year-old lady there (who was watching), who "used to be a good skater" but was a little concerned about breaking bones nowadays.

Another elderly man, skating still, told me about falling and ripping his shoulder rotator cup (that was after I told him that I ripped mine when I took a fall ice-skating backwards!) - his arm hung limp, and useless. Then he got an operation and is almost as good as new ... and still skating. And, he was going around to the kids who were falling, and nicely encouraging then to keep trying .. "we all start out falling". Great guy!

.

The drop caps at the beginning of the book (pp. 4, 6, 9, 15) give

A WIN

I think there is another drop-cap in the vicinity to yield

TWAIN

The drop-caps following

A WIN

are on pages 16,20,23,29,32

They are Roman numerals MLIML, which should add to

2101

21 (naught) 1 , and alphanumeric substitution

U A

AU

GOLD

So hear me all. I think all is pointing to awl but not sewing(so). Awl leads me to scriber which leads me to a scriber block or surface height gauge. L could be abbreviation of length? Angle? From wikipedia, the scriber point acts as a visual reference against which any variation in the work piece can be judged."

AWL also stands for aircraft warning light.

Hear me leads to Hermes...I think god of searches.

I dunno what these mean so if someone wants to clue me in, that would be good. Has this been discussed already?

@Mountain Digger, interesting, say one thing, mean something else. A misdirection? I don't understand why though.
