Bret Maverick's Big Game of Poker
Background Mailbag 11 - Brett the professional poker player playing blackjack for a living, recruits 10 convicts to beat Fenn at his game.
SL quotes hoD - "Sounds like Brett might just have a winning hand."

From TTOTC:
“Life is a game of poker,
Happiness is the pot.
Fate deals you four cards and a joker,
And you play whether you like it or not.”
[aberration knock off quote]

Then FF's opening line after receiving the True West award was to mention Lady Gaga - (poker face?)

Yes this does sound familiar to those who have followed the chase. I wrote in my book Finding Forrest Fenn:

“A Crystal River in a remote part of central Colorado is linked to the 1994 movie Maverick. The movie begins in a fictional town called Crystal River and it is about a gambler named Maverick who wanted to be the best and all of the country’s top poker players travelled from far and wide to gamble for the $500,000, winner take all prize."
He laughed as he recognized the similarities to our quest for the treasure chest. The significance of the word “maverick” became clear when I read Fenn’s memoir dust jacket, where it states that one needs “enough confidence in a maverick.” The fact that he verbally mentioned he is a maverick and, subsequently, gave this clue was something to get excited about!

I have always liked the poker analogy of Maverick and TTOTC, considering the con-artist Maverick's name in the movie was "Bret," same as Brett and his team of team of con-victs.

Kind of reminds me of a little game Ricky invented at Jenny's, who would like to see all the best chase player get together to play one big winner take all game - 10 players, 9 rounds one for each clue, now who is in?

Who is the Maverick that will take the "Top Gun Award?"

As the rules were set out, it starts out as 10 players, each one plays their clue 1 and they all vote on the clues, one with least votes is out. Keep going until 9 with one is left standing. Of course I suggested it be played behind closed doors, so no one can get any free information.

a password protected forum in which only the players can see, I suggested after each weekly round, we publish a media release to those not playing to hype it up a bit, but this World Series event is best played in the public, with everyone voting, but that would be up to the players.

Ok here are your chips [that was Ricky's line] He wanted to play with top 9 questions and we vote after a debate. The rules are loose, the 10 players can make up and agree on the rules.
