RE: The 270
I couldn't pull up the references in your post but I recall at one point some years ago Forest told Dal that he had to think in a different perspective and he specifically mentioned 270°

Oh wow...That's one quote I didn't find.

I have to give credit to J.C. Merritt, who provided his book of FF's quotes as a prize at Fennboree. That is a great resource, a "cornucopia" of good stuff.

And speaking of Cornucopia's, how about that Dame Fortuna? Also known as Fortuna Obsequens, Fortuna Brevis, Fortuna Redux, and others, depending on the specific aspect of the goddess.

Dame Fortune also related to the maxims, "He who dares, wins," and "Fortune favors the bold." Smile

RE: The 270
Not a bad idea Mindy, your time reference kinda makes me think of how someone(especially a fighter pilot) would use to tell a direction such as 3 o'clock being to the right 6 is behind and 9 is to the left and high noon would be dead ahead Wink

But this can be looked at in more than one prospective such as if I said someone was at my 3 o'clock its probably not to the right of you but just me.

i read your post but you are not making what is, imo, the most obvious point

on a map, going right to it would be east 90, and going 270 would be west or left, the opposite

and you can see this in the poem, in the crossword where "nigh" is located

it is giving both nigh and right. opposites

so part of the nuance of understanding the poem and separating the layers

in what context is it telling you to go left, and in what context is it telling you to go right. because it is saying both, but not contradicting

I agree. My graph was only representative of the angle, not which direction the missing piece of pie is facing. Smile

I don't know what to make of this, but this is something I've been working on in my area for quite some time now. I believe this is definitely a hint at direction, so I would like to add to this post just a little bit.

Remember this post:
I would do a 180, land at KSAF, drink lots of coffee, and don’t let the flight surgeon find you. Good luck sir. f

RE: The 270
A positive 180 is the same as a negative 180. It only depends on whether you turn left or right.

If you knew what the 180 was then which way would you go?
