RE: Chasing Chickens
George McJunkin was the sort of person Forrest would like - curious, self educated, persistent, self-reliant. Tony Hillerman wrote a nice piece about McJunkin - it's in "The Great Taos Bank Robbery and Other Stories."

"Well if they freed me from this prison,
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move it on a little farther down the line
Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to stay
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away....."

Hey BT, did you happen to see the post in my previous thread where I discussed the railroad connection ? If not, let me know and I will send it to you.

Teachers With Ropes

"Then about twenty students came in, single file, each holding fast to a large knot in a long rope."

crocodile : a long line of persons, esp. school children, moving in file, as when out for a walk.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
do not touch - hands off, keep your hands to yourself.
put both hands in my pockets - keep your hands to yourself.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I wanted them to see that my hands were in my pockets..." - keep your hands to yourself.
( he was standing in a line of people)

"And what I've learned that's MOST IMPORTANT is that both countries and people should know enough to just leave other folks alone... " ( page 145, TTOTC). - keep your hands to yourself.

Great song, by the way. One of the greatest bar songs of all times.

How about this:

The Centipede's Dilemma:
A centipede was happy – quite!
Until a toad in fun
Said, "Pray, which leg comes after which?"
Which threw her mind in such a pitch,
She laid bewildered in the ditch
Considering how to run.

Might have application to us poor searchers! Smile

The chest is hidden in the mountains, north of SF.
The chest is wet.

"...and they laughed real hard and didn't even care who heard."
laughingstock

laughingstock = greenhorn
greenhorn = inexperienced
inexperienced = wet behind the ears.

RE: Chasing Chickens
You can't have a correct solve, unless you are within several steps of the treasure.
It is unlikely that anyone could be within 12' and not find it.

The path to recovery is a twelve-step program.
