The Right Thoughts
I've been thinking about this phrase that F seems to keep repeating. He says solving the poem is not difficult, if you think the right thoughts.

Some people are "left-brained" and some are "right-brained." The ability to discern patterns is a function of the right side of the brain.

The right hemisphere of the brain is also responsible for art awareness, creativity, imagination, intuition, 3-D forms, and left hand control.

Anyway, here's a link that's interesting...and it uses the thoughts of key words, and using a key word per line to "map" your mind. This is well worth reading, imo.

https://books.google.com/books?id=DtjWFi...in&f=false

Maybe you just need the right thoughts in your mind to map the poem.

I agree that this is important. I think whoever finds the chest is somebody that will have a good balance of left and right, like Forrest.

Are we finally giving up the magnifying glass? If so, you will be a much more dangerous competitor Mindy. Darn it!

BT,
The magnifying glass has always just been one minor angle of the many I work on. Words and names have always been my focus.

I have never put all my cards on the table. And I probably never will.

But I do try to put helpful info out there...

Right, left thoughts will have you counting letters and words looking for patterns to convert to numbers that you convert to coordinates. I don't consider that to be imagination.

You know, someone said imagination is more important than knowledge. This must have been what he was talking about.

I don't think so...seeing patterns is a part of imagination. A big part of imagination is filling in the gaps--right brained stuff. Using your imagination is using your brain--the right side of your brain, where the right thoughts reside.

And word play often involves a big dose of imagination. Like, kennings, for example. Smile

One million percent correct
A scientist or mathematician with no people skills, perception or imagination will EVER his genius riddle

The person that solves this.... or already has solved it will be creative, imaginative, logical, brave, and as little bit crazy

Sure, seeing patterns that create the story that turns into a location is a far cry from force fitting words into a a gps coordinate. It's not the same thing.

Haha, no not a scientist. Scientists like things that are absolute. I don't think that word describes Forrest.

RE: The Right Thoughts
.
It does seem like a whole-brain approach is required. Forrest has said that the poem needs to be studied and analyzed (left brain), but also that imagination is important. One guess is that the imagination is required to direct / focus one's efforts into the correct way to analyze the poem.
